Written by the director, the movie tells the story of 13-year-old Jimmy, whom circumstances force into adulthood far too quickly. Over an exceedingly long summer, Jimmy collides with the very limits of his small town and his bumpy life, caught in between a drifting mother and a stepfather who has her wrapped around his little finger.

Produced by Margaret Ménégoz for Les Films du Losange, Childhood is benefitting from co-production by France 3 Cinéma, pre-purchases by Canal+ and Ciné+, backing from the Lorraine region and an advance on receipts by the CNC. Shooting will take place until 1 August in and around Nancy, with Denis Lenoir as DoP. Les Films du Losange will distribute the feature in French cinemas on 31 December 2014 and is handling international sales.

Les Films du Losange currently has The Days Come by Romain Goupil (who also features among the film’s cast, together with Noémie Lvovsky, Marina Hands and Valéria Bruni-Tedeschi – read the article) and Barbet Schroeder’s Amnesia (starring Marthe Keller and Max Riemelt, and produced together with Swiss outfit Vega Film) in post-production.
