Eleven animated film projects are to be included in the first edition of the Animazine Production Forum, which is due to take place on 28 March as part of the homonymous section of the 17th edition of the Malaga Spanish Film Festival (21-29 March). 

The aim of the forum, which is jointly organised by the Malaga-based competition and the association of animation producers Diboos, in collaboration with ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones and FAPAE, is to provide a business platform for the Spanish and Latin American animation industry through one-to-one meetings in which funding, distribution and co-production partners can be sought for feature-film projects that have transmedia potential and brand potential.

Among the selected projects is one of the most eagerly awaited animated films, Deep [+see also:

, directed by Julio Soto and produced by The Thinklab. Set in the darkest depths of the ocean in the year 2100, it tells the tale of an octopus called Deep and his two best friends, Evo the fish and Alice the prawn. The movie’s international sales agent is the Belgian firm Umedia International.

Another project that will undoubtedly get people talking is Memorias de un hombre en pyjama (Memoirs of a Man in Pyjamas), based on the comic by the famous cartoonist Paco Roca, who will be in charge of directing its adaptation for Ladybug Films. – one of the most successful animated films of recent Spanish cinema – is based.

The Spanish companies R&R Communications, Melón Digital and Solita Films will present Extraordinary Tales, the project directed by Raúl García and co-produced by Luxembourg-based Melusine Productions, the French firm Les Armateurs and the Belgian organisation The Big Farm.

The selection of projects is completed by three that are being presented by Spanish companies (Alfred and Anna, Save the Music, by Juanma Suárez for Forma Animada; Bad Dogs, by Raúl García for Capitán Araña and Arcadia Motion Pictures; and Brujerías - Meigallos, by Virginia Curiá for Continental Producciones), as well as five by Latin American producers (The Argentinian titles Anida y el circo flotante, by Liliana Romero for Toma Virtual by Imageneers, and Gilgamesh, by Tomás Lipgot for Hookup Animation and Duermevela; the Mexican production Día de muertos, by Carlos Gutiérrez for Metacube Tecnología y Entretenimiento; the Colombian film Zoro, by Felipe Morell for Digitz Film; and the Hispano-Cuban Meñique, by Ernesto Padrón – scriptwriter of the legendary 1985 title ¡Vampiros en la Habana! – for Spanish firm Ficción Producciones and Cuba-based ICAIC).
