The results of the 2nd session 2013 of the Screen Flanders selection, the funding mechanism aiming to encourage filming in the Flemish region, have just been unveiled. 10 projects will be supported, for a total amount of 2,215,000€. As a reminder, the maximum funding amount per project is 400,000€ and the funding is aimed at Belgian co-producers who then commit to spending at least one euro in the Flemish region per euro given by the fund. This regional fund aims to contribute to structuring the sector, notably by attracting vast foreign projects.

Amongst the selected projects, it is worth mentioning the new film by Peter Greenaway, Eisenstein in Guanajuato, an international co-production between Mexico, the Netherlands, France, Finland and Belgium, represented by Potemkino (whose new bloody feature Cub by Jonas Govaert is highly anticipated). Another international co-production was also selected: the animated film Richard the Stork [+see also:

by Diederick Koopal (Netherlands) coproduced by A Private View was also selected, as well as six other majority Belgian projects. Gilles Coulier, discovered last May in Cannes with his short Mont-Blanc, is developing with his production company (Wereldvrede) Bevergem, a series which he presents as a mix between Breaking Bad and Lilyhammer. We also find Brabançonne, the new film by Vincent Bal, whose filming will begin in March, the story of a “fight” between a Wallonian marching band and a Flemish one, notably featuring Flemish pop singer Amaryllis Uitterlinden, Erika Sainte, and Arthur Dupont, for a film produced by Eyeworks, and W by Frank Van Mechelen, based on a successful Flemish detective series, Witse, and produced by Skyline Entertainment.
