The FFF Bayern gives a cash injection of €1.6 M to the German-British-Swedish-American coproduction The Postcard Killers which will be directed by the Mexican writer/director Everardo Gout (Días de gracia [+see also:

). The scary vacation thriller is based on the book by the same by James Patterson and Liza Marklund, which topped the bestseller list of the New York Times in 2010.

A young couple leaves behind a blood trail on their journey across Europe. Their victims are other young couples who are often on their honeymoon. They set up the dead bodies in the same way as famous paintings, take pictures of them and send a postcard to a reporter from a local newspaper. A similar postcard is also sent to a journalist in Stockholm who has an unusual visitor. A cop from New York is standing in front of her door because his daughter was a victim of the “Postcard Killers.” Together they start to investigate.

The German producers of The Postcard Killers are Helge Sasse, chairman of Senator Film and Jan S. Kaiser, CEO of Bavaria Pictures. The two companies concluded a joint-venture in order to produce features film together in April 2012 and the Bavaria-based production branch of Senator Film became a partner of Bavaria Pictures. More than half of the thriller will be shot in Bavaria where it will be financed by a special fund for international co-productions.

The first film which was co-financed by this international co-production fund in Bavaria is the action adventure Big Game (read the news) by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander (Rare Exports [+see also:

) which was shot with Samuel L. Jackson in Bavaria this fall.
