Vargas Llosa teams up with Lola

by

Following Rosa Montero’s La Hija del Canibal and Nicholas Shakespeare’s adaptation of Dancers Upstairs, Lola Films have once again turned to a novel for inspiration: “La Fiesta del Chivo” by Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa.
Andres Vicente Gomez, the president of the Spanish production and distribution company behind international hits like Goya by Carlos Saura and le Comunidad by Alex de la Iglesia, said that the new $8m (Euros7.447m) film will be directed in English by Peruvian Luis Llosa (Anaconda, The Specialist) on location in the Domenican Republic.
La Fiesta del Chivo takes place during the Trujillo dictatorship (his nickname was El Chivo). He was eventually assassinated in 1961 after thirty years in power. Although it is still in the pre-production phase, the cast will be headed by Penelope Cruz and Andy Garcia.
