Pietje Bell out in Belgium

by

Hot on the heels of its domestic success, Dutch children’s feature, Pietje Bell, directed by Maria Peters is released today, 9 April, in Belgium. Produced by the Netherlands’ Shooting Star Filmcompany, this tender children’s comedy is based on the novel by Chris van Abkoude about a boy, the Pietje Bell of the title, whose adventures make the front pages of local papers. The film stars Quinten Schram and co-stars Katja Herbers, Felix Strategier, Rick Engelkes and Angela Groothuizen and is distributed in Belgium by Buena Vista International. Released in Holland on 17 November 2002, Pietje Bell sold close on 900,000 tickets and came fifth in the Top 20 best performing Dutch films of the last ten years, with the top slot going to Kruimeltje, also based on another van Abkoude novel.
