Local children's films break records in Slovenia and Croatia

Last weekend saw two children's films open to huge box office success in Slovenia and Croatia.

In Slovenia, Miha Hočevar's Going Our Way 2 (photo) sold 27,234 admissions for the opening weekend to make €140,549 and become the best local opener ever, overtaking its predecessor Going Our Way which opened in 2010 with 18,686 tickets sold. The sequel, produced by Vertigo/Emotionfilm and featuring mostly the same cast and crew, had by November 14 garnered €175,066 from 38,691 admissions, including the results from avant-premieres in nine Slovenian cities during the week before the official opening.

Going Our Way grossed a total €800,444 from 208,529 admissions in 2011.

Meanwhile in Croatia, Silvije Petranović's The Little Shoemaker [+see also:

opened ahead of Hollywood productions Thor: The Dark World and Last Vegas with 21,693 admissions and €480,988. This is the second best local opening ever, only second to Vinko Brešan's hit comedy The Priest's Children [+see also:

, which sold more than 33,000 tickets for its opening weekend in January this year. By November 14, The Little Shoemaker, a Maydi Film production, had garnered a total of €102,728 from 35,355 tickets.

Croatian children's films are very popular in the territory, especially during the holiday season. Koko and the Ghosts [+see also:

sold over 77,000 admissions, and its sequel Mysterious Boy over 70,000 in 2011/12 and 2013 respectively.

The Little Shoemaker's animated predecessor Brave Adventures of the Little Shoemaker had sold more than 220,000 admissions in Croatia in 1997.
