CineMondo puts the spotlight on the Maghreb

The Cinemondo festival, organized by the French Academy in Rome (November 21-26), offers every year a panorama of the most recent and innovative cinema production of a specific geographic area. This year the Mediterranean countries, and the Maghreb in particular, will be given special importance, with a specific focus on Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

Cineuropa will take part in the festival for the first time as a media partner and will closely follow this initiative, which, through its rich programme, shows how much cinema is turning into one of the most important artistic expressions in those countries.

Like in the two previous editions, the festival has also a carte blanche. This year the special guest is the cinematheque of Tanger, which will reveal its treasures throughout the festival, including some important creative documentaries. The cinematheque, founded in 2006 by the artist Yto Barrada, has quickly become an international platform for the promotion of local production.

Some evidence of the current socio-political events will be given by the documentaries from the SpazioDoc section, while the SpazioOff one offers the chance to meet some of the most important directors from the Maghreb.

Thanks to its quality programme, CineMondo gives a good overview of cinema creation in the Maghreb, set in the beauty of the Villa Mèdicis.
