Death of Wolf Schwarz

German film and television producer, Wolf Schwarz passed away last weekend at the age of 85 in Munich. Schwarz was considered something of a “Legend behind the Silver Screen”. In 1946, Schwarz, with Harald Braun and Jakob Geis, set up the “Neue Deutsche Filmgesellschaft” (NDF), the following year they produced Germany’s first post-WWII drama Zwischen Gestern und Morgen starring Hildegard Knef. Three titles he produced while at NDF: Herz der Welt (1951), Solange Du da bist (1953) and Himmel hohne Sterned took part in various editions of the Cannes Film Festival.
In 1956 Schwarz was appointed chairman of Bavaria Film Art. During his long career, Wolf Schwarz produced over 40 features and some 200 TV films and worked with celebrated acting talents like O.W. Fischer, Maria Schell, Romy Schneider and Italy’s Marcello Mastroianni.
