in the Venice Days. It is the first time that the Algerian filmmaker (born in 1944) enters the competition of a prominent festival. Produced by Jacques Bidou and Marianne Dumoulin for Parisian company JBA Production, Les Terrasses, which was coproduced by Algerian company Baya Films, benefitted from the funding for world cinema from the CNC.

Elle Driver’s Venetian line-up also features a second Golden Lion contender (Miss Violence by Greek director Alexandros Avranas), but also Why Don't You Play in Hell by Japanese director Sion Sono (selected for Orrizonti), May in The Summer by Palestinian-American director Cherien Debis (unveiled in competition in Sundance and showcased during the Venice Days) and Italian animated feature The Art of Happiness by Alessandro Rak, which will open the Critics’ Week. It is worth noting that the first two titles will then make their way to the Toronto Film Festival (September 5-15, 2013).

Amongst the many films pre-sold by Elle Driver, it is worth mentioning 3 hearts by Benoît Jacquot (to be filmed soon with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Léa Seydoux, Catherine Deneuve and Benoît Poelvoorde in the cast), the project Nobody Wants The Night by Spanish director Isabel Coixet (a coproduction between Spain, France - Noodles – Bulgaria and Norway, starring Juliette Binoche and Rinko Kikuchi), L'homme que l'on aimait trop by André Téchiné (in post-production with Catherine Deneuve, Guillaume Canet and Adèle Haenel – read the news), Dead Snow 2 by Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola and the documentary Mademoiselle C by Fabien Constant. Let’s finally note 9 month stretch by Albert Dupontel (article – to be released in France on October 16) and the competitor from Cannes Grand Central [+see also:
