Guests heading to Riccione’s Congressi centre accompanying their films include Carlo Verdone, Raoul Bova, Claudia Gerini, Alessandro Gassmann, Stefano Accorsi, Vincenzo Salemme, Angela Finocchiaro, Marco Giallini, Vittoria Puccini, Riccardo Scamarcio, Elio Germano, Rocco Papaleo, Fausto Brizzi, Carlo and Enrico Vanzina, Neri Parenti, Federico Moccia and Paolo Genovese.

The event will kick off tonight with the special screening in 4K of Samsara by Ron Fricke, an example of new cinema screening technology as well as avant-garde image. Four national premieres will take place during the event: The Lone Ranger by Gore Verbinski, In Trance by Danny Boyle, Now You See Me by Louis Leterrier and Starbuck by Ken Scott.

Ciné will also be hosting a number of workshops and meetings/debates, which will be open to participants from across the cinema industry, including technical workers and movie theatre workers. The workshops will include one called “Driving forces for and against programming,” on the state of multi-programming meant in terms of the plurality and diversification of films and alternative content.

“The Ciné event falls at a time when we are witnessing the return of audiences to cinemas,” Richard Borg (ANICA) said. “In order for this to happen, the state needs to invest in the sector. Instead, public resources like the FUS and the tax credit, continue to be reduced,” Lionello Cerri (ANEC) and Carlo Bernaschi (ANEM) continued by saying. The cancellation of the tax credit (read the news story) will be the theme of a meeting with associations, writers and unions, during which time protest and mobilisation initiatives for the next few months will be discussed.
