New Unifrance head to be named post-Cannes

by

The name of the successor to Daniel Toscan du Plantier as President of Unifrance, the agency for the promotion of French cinema abroad, will only be decided after the end of the Cannes Film Festival (14-25 May 2003). The decision was taken following a preliminary meeting on 27 March, between the Unifrance board and the French Minister for Culture, Jean-Jacques Aillagon.
In accordance with the Unifrance charter, the new president must be chosen from one of the Board's six sitting members, all of whom are feature film producers: Philippe Carcassonne (Ciné B), Jean-Claude Fleury (SPI-Square Productions International), Marie Masmonteil (Elzevir Films), and three new members who were appointed on 26 March: Margaret Menegoz (les Films du Losange), Humbert Balsan (Ognon Pictures) and Michel Propper (MP Productions) to replace the late Christine Gouze-Rénal and Daniel Toscan du Plantier, as well as Denis Freyd, who resigned.
The new president’s mandate will run out in June 2004.
