Locarno: Homage to Sergio Castellitto

Sergio Castellitto will receive a Pardo for his career during the 66th edition of the Locarno Film Festival (7-17 August). The announcement was made yesterday by artistic director Carlo Chatrian during the course of a reception at the Swiss embassy in Rome.

”The recognition given to Sergio Castellitto," Chatrian said, "is not just a way to retrace a career which was able to bridge two different times in Italian cinema - that of the sacred monsters (Monicelli, Ferreri, Mastroianni…) and that of newcomers (Amelio, Bellocchio, Virzì) in order to forge his own creative journey. Whether he has been serving Italian and foreign directors or following his own projects, Sergio Castellitto represents an Italian quality cinema which has much to tell even beyond its borders. It is this cinema that I would like to bring to Locarno through perhaps less known projects, but equally original ones.”

"This is my first career award, and I am touched by the reasons behind it. I naturally would like to dedicate it to my partner Margaret Mazzantini and to my children,” Castellitto declared.
