Silver Ribbons: Sorrentino and Tornatore head the list of contenders

Will The Great Beauty, depicting a cynical and grotesque Rome be the film to gain the most acclaim from Italy’s film reporters, or will it be The Best Offer, a tale of auction and deception? The arduous sentence will be read out on July 6, when all winners of the 2013 Silver Ribbons (Nastri d’argento) will be announced by the national union of Italian cinema journalists (Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani - SNGCI). This year’s edition of the Silver Ribbons (Nastri), in their 67th year, is all Italian. “The 2013 edition of the Nastri has significantly eliminated any category that celebrate European and global cinema,” SNGCI president Laura Delli Colli explained, “this is a world of filmmakers and films that has already received undisputable recognition through awards as well as at the box office.”
