Palme d’or contender Michael Kohlhaas sold to US

- Cannes competition entry Michael Kohlhaas has been sold to Music Box for North America by French agent Les Films du Losange. The French/German co-production will have its world premiere on May 24

, that will screen in official competition in Cannes on May 24 has already been snapped up by Music Box for the US and Canada. The deal was negotiated by French sales agent Les Films du Losange.

Arnaud des Pallières’ Cannes competition entry Michael Kohlhaas stars Mads Mikkelsen as a horse dealer who leads a happy and prosperous family life. When a lord treats him unjustly, this pious, upstanding man raises an army and puts the country to fire and sword in order to have his rights restored. Other cast members include Bruno Ganz, Dennis Lavant and Sergi López. Music Box plans a fourth quarter 2013 theatrical release for the drama, which is co-produced by France’s Les Films d’Ici and Germany’s Looks Filmproduktion.

Les Films du Losange’s Head of Sales Agathe Valentin brokered the deal with Music Box’s Acquisition consultant James Brown. Les Films du Losange will release Michael Kohlhaas in France on July 3, 2013.
