film profile] by Polanski) is working on the pre-production of his fifth feature film as a director: The Blue Room. Based on the novel with the same title by Georges Simenon, the screenplay, which was co-written by Mathieu Amalric and Stéphanie Cléau, focuses on a man and woman who make love in secret in a bedroom, desire and long for each other, even bite each other. Then they exchange a few banalities after making love. Or at least that's what the man believes... The film's production is being handled by Paulo Branco for Alfama Films, which will launch its pre-sales at the Film Market at the 66th Cannes Film Festival (May 15th to 26th, 2013).

Alfama's line-up in Cannes also features the work in progress Love or Die by the American veteran, cult director Monte Hellman. The pitch? A man and woman destined for each other, but who never met whilst they were alive, are sent back to earth to fulfil this love.

Another production will be pre-sold by Alfama on the Croisette: La Forêt de quinconces. This first feature film as a director for actor Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet will feature Micha Lescot, Clotilde Hesme and Pauline Caupenne in the cast, in a tale of passionate love and predation, folly and revenge.

During the Market, Alfama Films wil also be counting on titles announced in Berlin (article), including Body Art by Italian director Luca Guadagnino (with Isabelle Huppert, Denis Lavant and David Cronenberg, based on the novel The Body Artist by Don DeLillo) and The Giacomo Variations by Michael Sturminger (with John Malkovitch as Casanova) which should begin filming this summer, and Cadences obstinées by Fanny Ardant (in post-production – article).
