by Pierre-Yves Borgeaud has been available on Orange and iTunes VOD platformes, and Vidéo en Poche. Short-circuiting France's media chronology by positioning itself ahead of its release, the film will then come out from May 8th (Urban Distribution) in about 15 theatres in France (including those in the Utopia network and the Cinéma des Cinéastes in Paris). And it will also be launched, simultaneously or almost simultaneously in theatres and via VOD, between April and July, in nine other European countries (in the United Kingdom and Ireland by Soda Pictures, in Italy by Nomad Films, in Poland by Gutek, in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands by Brunbro, in Lithuania by Kaunas and in Portugal by Alambique).

This operation is the first phase in The TIDE Experiment, a project coordinated by the ARP (Société civile des Auteurs, Réalisateurs, Producteurs or Industry Guild of Writers, Directors & Producers) and backed by the European Commission, to experiment with new models for the distribution and screening of independent European movies, especially titles released in limited combinations of copies (read the interview with Eric Busidan, Deputy General Director of the ARP).

In all, The Tide Experiment will encompass ten releases of this kind (including four in 2013), cover technical and local and international marketing expenses, and provide transversal marketing services. The next film concerned should be Magnifica Presenza [+see also:

directed by Ferzan Ozpetek (read the review) with a summer launch in at least six territories, thanks to the involvement of the Italian company Fandango in the experiment (the other TIDE partners being Goldcrest Films International of Great Britain, and the French companies Wide, Europa Distribution, Under the Milky Way and The Film Agency).
