Stars in wheelchairs for Piovono Mucche

by

Luca Vendruscolo’s directorial feature debut, entitled Piovono mucche (It’s Raining Cows) has yet to be released and is already something of a cause célèbre because it is a comedy about a group of conscientious objectors who work with handicapped and wheelchair-bound people. Vendruscolo managed to avoid being patronising with what is undoubtedly not the easiest of subjects. Piovono Mucche will be screened today in Rome’s Town Hall at 18.00 before a VIP audience that includes the city’s mayor, Walter Veltroni, and subsequently released in Rome and Milan on 28 March by courtesy of Gianluca Arcopinto’s Pablo. That same day the film will be screened in a number of Italian cities as part of a wider event to create greater awareness of the problems that handicapped people – and their carers - face every day of their lives. The story is based on Luca Vendruscolo’s personal experience of just such a community, the Capodarco.
