15/02/2013 - Futuristic drama being shot under auspices of Ireland-South Africa treaty

Writer/director Jake Paltrow (photo) has commenced principal photography at South African locations for Young Ones. Set in the near future where water is scarce and times are hard, the drama focuses on a 14-year-old who must provide for his family. The cast is an eclectic international mix featuring Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dead Europe) from Australia, Michael Shannon (The Raven [+see also:

film profile]) and Elle Fanning (Ginger & Rosa [+see also:

film profile]) from the US, and Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) from the UK.

The film is a coproduction between Ireland’s Subotica Entertainment and South Africa’s Spier Films. The production is being filmed under the terms of the Ireland-South Africa treaty signed in 2012. Post-production will commence in March in Dublin.

Spain-based 6 Sales and US-based The Exchange are handling international sales. Ascot Elite (Germany) and Lusomundo (Portugal) have pre-bought the film.
