Kilkenny reads Subtitle

- New pan European film festival kicks off today in Ireland

Subtitle, a new film festival of subtitled European films, opens November 19 in Kilkenny with Susanne Bier’s In A Better World [+see also:

and closes November 25 with Nikolaj Arcel’s Truth About Men [+see also:

The festival will showcase the best films of the last ten years from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Romania, Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Czech Republic and beyond. Attendees include Jasper Pakkonnen, Dome Karukoski, Mikael Persbrandt, Laura Bach, Frans Bak, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, Simon Staho, Magnus Martens, Robbie Sheehan and Aidan Turner.

The festival’s inaugural Angela Awards will celebrate the achievements of actors, directors, writers, composers and cinematographers throughout Europe. The awards are named after the late Angela Cook, an avid film fan and supporter of the arts.

Strands this year including a look at the Icelandic New Wave; Remake – a section devoted to European films remade in Hollywood; and a spotlight on the work of Danish auteur Simon Staho.

Subtitle is the brainchild of the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival and Kilkenomics teams.
