A Hijacking wins in Thessaloniki
- Danish director Tobias Lindholm leaves with the Golden Alexander for Best Film. Mold wins silver and Epilogue takes bronze
Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm’s latest film, A Hijacking, has won the Golden Alexander at the 53rd edition of the Thessaloniki Film Festival that ended on November 11, 2012. A Hijacking also won the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film in the competition.
The Silver Alexander, the Jury Special Prize, was handed to Ali Aydin’s Mold. This Turco-German co-production, like the Danish film, was first unveiled in Venice.
The Bronze Alexander, the Jury Special Prize for the Originality and Innovation of a work, was awarded to Israeli director Amir Manor’s Epilogue, a film that also won Best Screenplay and the Audience Award.
Spanish director Antonio Méndez Esparza won Best Director for Aquí y allá, a film that made its premiere at the Critics’ Week of the last Cannes Film Festival.
Polish actress Julia Kijowska’s brilliant performance in Loving earned her Best Actress, while Greek actor Yannis Papadopoulos won Best Actor for his role in Boy Eating the Bird’s Food.
The Color of Chameleon, a surprising Bulgarian production directed by Emil Christov, received a Second Jury Special Mention.
