24/08/2012 - This award for best film school graduation project has gone to Hanna Doose’s feature debut, featuring late actress Susanne Lothar

The First Steps Award for best German film school final year project was awarded to Hanna Doose from the DFFB (Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin) for her feature Staub auf unseren Herzen.

This film, in which actress Susanne Lothar, who died a little less than a month ago (read more), plays one of her last main roles, tells the story of a Berliner in her thirties (Stephanie Stremler) who dreams of being an actress but suffers from the imposing image of her psychologist mother (Lothar). Fifteen years later, when her father returns with the intention of bringing the family back together again, she is finally given the chance to become an adult.

Before joining the Berlin Film and Television Academy, Hanna Doose, born in Cologne in 1979, studied in Denmark at the European Film College. At the beginning of July, Staub auf unseren Herzen won three prizes at the 30th Munich Film Festival: the Audience Award and both main prizes in the New German Cinema section (Best Director with €30,000 worth of prize money, and Best Production for which David Keitsch and Ben von Dobeneck won €20,000).
