Austrian director wins “Emerging Maverick” Award
Austrian director Peter Patzak won the Emerging Maverick Award at the San Jose Film Festival in California last weekend for Zodiac Sign (Sternzeichen) which had its world-premiere at the Californian event. Zodiac Sign is about a successful lawyer and family man, played by Heiko Deutschmann, who has to take care of his mentally handicapped brother (Barnaby Metschurat) for one month, and the experience makes the lawyer take stock of his life and career. Co-produced by Germany’s Alexander Gehrke for Antaeus Medienvertrieb, in collaboration with MDR Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and Austrian state broadcaster, ORF, Zodiac Sign does not have a release date in either country, although Patzak feels that may change in light of his American victory.
Patzak won the best director award for Die Wasserfälle von Slunj at the first Venice International Television Festival last year.
