Sammy the 3D turtle returns to Belgian cinemas

by

- Sammy the turtle, Ben Stassen’s 3D character and 2010 summer blockbuster, is back in Belgian cinemas with new adventures

Almost exactly two years after the release of A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventures, Ben Stassen’s 3D turtle is back in Belgian cinemas on August 15. This first instalment, released in 2010, was a great success (with 1.2 million admissions in France, and about 245,000 admissions in Belgium). Stassen, who also directed the first film to be screened only in 3D (Fly Me to the Moon), succeed in the technical feat of depicting larger-than-life underwater scenes in 3D (and animation), and Sammy the turtle had everything to delight the young.

In this second instalment, Sammy and his best friend Ray are more experienced and are ready to pass their wisdom to the next generation, their newborns Ricky and Ella. As they learn their first strokes in the big blue, the two older turtles are captured by poachers and delivered to an aquarium in Dubai. Very fast, they gather “an army” and sketch out an escape plan. On the other side of the barrier, Ricky and Ella are also plotting to save their parents too. Cinema-goers will meet an entire team of underwater creatures in this latest instalment: turtles, of course, but also fish, lobsters, sea horses, and the incontestable stars of the big screen these last few years, the penguins. Stassen has once more called on a cast of star comedians to lend their voices to this small universe, including Frank Dubosc, Elie Seimoun, and Fred Testot, alongside François Damiens and Guillaume Galienne. Like the previous film, Sammy 2 is produced by nWave, Ben Stassen’s production company, in collaboration with Studio Canal. The film cost €25m, quite a large budget for a Belgian film, but quite a modest one for an animation film of international scope. Kinepolis will distribute the film in Belgium.
