Vinnie Jones shoots new film in Lithuania

- Cineuropa reports as the star of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and X-Men: The Last Stand comes to the Baltics to film Flight Redirected

Vinnie Jones – the British football player who became a Hollywood action star, appearing in films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) – will move to Lithuania during the summer to star in the Lithunanian film Flight Redirected. Jones will appear alongside Scot Williams, Russian movie star Artur Smolyaninov, Gil Darnell, Anthony Strachan, Oliver Jackson and a number of popular Lithuanian actors including Vytautas Sapranauskas, Rafailas Karpis, Monika Vaiciulyte and Kestutis Jakstas. Shooting is expected to begin on 23rd July at various locations around Lithiuania.

Described as “an outrageous Hangover meets Guy-Ritchie” film, Flight Redirected tells the story of four friends-cum-robbers who get stranded in Eastern Europe. To get back home, they must deal with culture shock and plenty of criminals, prostitutes, dirty cops and cheap beer, and they must also try and keep their friendship together.

The film will be directed by Emilis Velyvis, who was previously responsible for the Lithuanian action/comedy films Zero (2006) and Zero 2 (2010) both of which were huge domestic hits. Flight Directed is produced by Kino Kultas, in co-production with Meed Films (LT) and Wellington Films Ltd. (UK) with producers Asta Liukaityte, Donatas Zvalionis, Alastair Clark and Rachel Robey (the latter two responsible for the hit British films London to Brighton [+see also:

(2006) and Crying with Laughter (2009)).

Financed by the National Film Support programme at the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania and private investors, the national premiere for Flight Redirected is planned for January 2014 with an international release in February 2014.
