Sky expands on demand with a library of 2000 titles

- Sky on Demand, the platform that uses broadband for progressive download, launches July 1st

Sky Italy presented a new challenge to its competitors, following its recent launch of Sky Go that allows subscribers to enjoy mobility with certain programs by watching them on iPhone, tablet and computer. From the 1st of July Sky on Demand, a collection of films, TV series, documentaries, children’s programs, sports, over 1200 titles, will become immediately available and this number will reach 2000 by Christmas.

Sky on Demand is an on-demand platform that utilizes broadband connection for progressive download, unlike its competitors who use real time streaming. It spans across every category and brings together the best of world cinema, from recent successes in HD such as Carnage [+see also:

“In these difficult times, we want to revolutionize television by increasing our services”, says Andrea Zappia CEO of Sky Italy who praises the leadership of Murdoch’s pay TV with a market share of “9 million euros invested in 9 years”. Their competitor, Mediaset, has already launched a similar platform but other contenders are Microsoft’s Xbox, Sony’s Playstation, Apple TV, and Google’s Youtube.
