Two Romanian projects, Through My Veins and Cristian, will search for co-producers in Rotterdam's CinemArt (January 29 - February 1) and, respectively, Berlinale Co-Production Market (February 12-14).

Cristian will be Tudor Giurgiu's third feature, after Love Sick (screened in the Panorama sidebar in 2006) and Of Men and Snails, scheduled for domestic release immediately after a first screening at the 11th Transylvania International Film Festival. Giurgiu plans to start shooting in autumn and his production company Libra Films needs help to round up the €800,000 budget. Last September, the film received a €175,000 grant from the Romanian Film Center.

The screenplay, written by Giurgiu together with Loredana Novak, centres on the tribulations of Cristian, a young and idealist prosecutor responsible for a case of a former colleague accused of corruption. Christian's thorough research will prove the defendent to be a victim of a set-up and reveals a corrupt network that will put his career and even life in danger. According to the Romanian press, Giurgiu has already found his protagonist: Emilian Oprea, a theatre actor in his first major part on the big screen.

The only eastern-European production in Cinemart, Through My Veins, is Florin Serban's second feature after his Berlinale Jury Grand Prix-winning debut If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle [+see also:

(2010). The film is written by Serban [pictured], who will produce through his own company, Fantascope. Through My Veins received a €200,000 production grant from the Romanian Film Center in September 2011, “but this is only the first step in order to round up the budget, and foreign financing is of paramount importance if we want to start shooting in the spring of 2013, as planned”, Serban stressed in a press release.

The director plans an elaborate casting session for his second feature, as he wants amateur actors to play the main characters in Through My Veins, namely a man and a woman ready to try anything and everything in order to stay together.
