Anim'est trophy goes to Estonia
The sixth edition of the youngest and most popular festival of Bucharest, Anim'est, ended on Saturday, the festival's most important trophy going to Estonia: Body Memory [pictured], directed by Ulo Pikkov, is also the Anim'est nomination for Cartoon d'Or, the award created in 1991 in order to promote European animation.
Best Feature award went to Russian Garri Bardin for his The Ugly Duckling, a film inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Best Short was Millhaven, by Poland's Bartek Kulas, while Best Student Short award went to White No White, from German director Anna Bergmann. Israel's Ishihara, directed by Yoav Brill, received a Special Mention.
Sebastian Cosor's The Scream won the award for Best Romanian Short, the young director also winning the main prize of the Balkanimation competition.
Best Video clip award went to US director Stefan Nadelmann and Swiss Adrian Fluckiger received the award for Best Commercial. The Audience Award went to Tomer Eshed's Flamingo Pride (Germany). Romanian Isabela Petrasincu received the festival's Lifetime Achievement Award.
The sixth Anim'est screened a record number of 400 films from all over the world. The list of international guests comprised US director Shane Acker, US Oscar winner Joan C. Gratz and UK animator Alexander Damm, known for supervising the animated sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows [+see also:

film profile]. The festival also paid tribute to the masters of puppet animation films in the generous retrospective Masters of Puppets, which covered the genre from the early beginnings to the present day.
The festival will have a follow-up in Cluj-Napoca at the end of October and also, a first for a Romanian festival, a Chisinau edition at the beginning of November.
