FESTIVALS Italy

12 European films in the running at Viareggio’s Europacinema

by

Twelve European films, all national premieres, are taking part in the Europacinema 2011 festival’s competition, taking place in Viareggio from October 9-16.

It’s an edition that will also pay homage to Mario Monicelli by showing for the very first time, in collaboration with Bologna’s Cineteca, two 16mm films made by Monicelli - Il cuore rivelatore from 1934 and The Paul Street Boys from 1935 – as well as images from Pioggia d'Estate, a film which the director shot in Viareggio in 1936, when he was 21, under the pseudonym of Michele Badiek.
