As every year, the Cineuropa team is covering the Venice International Film Festival. Until September 11, 2011, our journalists will be attending screenings of the European films in all the competitions and categories, to report on the presence of European cinema which is once again very strong at this 68th edition of the festival.

Out of competition, we’ll also be taking an interest in the European presence with Madonna’s UK production W.E. [+see also:

film profile] by Philippe Faucon. Out of competition, Belgium is in the spotlight again with Chantal Akerman’s new film, Almayer’s Folly [+see also:

This year, we’ll also take a look at the International Critics’ Week which offers an almost entirely European selection and we’ll complete our coverage with a few films from the Controcampo Italiano and Horizons sections, the eagerly awaited events including the homage to director Marco Bellochio (who will be in attendance), and numerous meetings with the directors and producers who have come to present their films.

As an official partner of Venice Days, Cineuropa has organised and will supervise a Storify — this means an interactive blog based mainly on the social networks — whose content will be provided by 27 young film enthusiasts from the 27 Times Cinema programme. This is an initiative organised by the European Parliament’s LUX Prize in partnership with Venice Days, Cineuropa and the exhibitors network Europa Cinemas. These 27 representatives from the EU member countries will have the task of reporting on their experiences during the festival. Written columns, photos, videos, as well as comments, quotes and reflections gleaned at the heart of the Mostra will be the subject of debates with professionals and a continuous account on the Storify which you’re invited to discover at this web address:www.cineuropa.org/27-times-cinema-live-from-venice.
