Belgian talent wins in France
Belgian actress, Cécile de France won the César Award on Saturday 22 February for most promising newcomer of the year, for her inspired work in Cédric Klapisch’s L’auberge espagnole. The film is about the Barcellonan adventures and misadventures of a group of Erasmus Group students. During her acceptance speech, de France appealed to the French minister for culture not to follow the Belgian example and abolish the actors’ statute in France, but to maintain it.
This year’s Césars saw a number of Belgian nominees: actresses Emilie Duquenne for Une femme de ménage by Claude Berri, and co-starring Jean-Pierre Bacri, while Morgan Marinne was nominated for The Son [+see also:

A Belgian film was also nominated in the best first-film category: Carnages by Delphine Gleize, produced by
Need Production (Denis Delcampe) and RTBF, by France’s Balthazar Productions, StudioCanal and France 3 Cinéma, and by Spain’s Oasis PC and Switzerland’s PCT Cinéma Télévision and TSR.
