So Polanski could be back in competition on the Lido for the first time since 1962 when he presented his debut feature, Knife in the Water. In 1993, the director received a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

Produced by SBS Productions (who are also handling international sales) and Germany’s Constantin Film, Carnage (see news) stars US actors Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly, Brit thesp Kate Winslet and Austria’s Christoph Waltz. The film will be released in France by Wild Bunch Distribution on October 12 and in Italy by Medusa on September 16.

With Un Été Brûlant (see news), Garrel is set to appear in the Venice competition for the fifth time after I Can No Longer Hear the Guitar (Silver Lion in 1991), Night Wind in 1999, Wild Innocence in 2001 and Regular Lovers [+see also:

Co-produced by France (Rectangle Productions), Italy (Faro Film) and Switzerland (Prince Films), Un Été Brûlant has a cast including Italian actress Monica Bellucci, Louis Garrel, Céline Salette , Jérôme Robart and the late-lamented Maurice Garrel. The film will be launched in France on September 28 by Wild Bunch, who are also handling international sales.
