CANNES 2011 Critics’ Week

Take Shelter takes Grand Prize

by

European films were almost absent from the winners at the 50th International Critics’ Week (SIC). The jury presided by Korean director Lee Chang-dong has awarded the 2011 Grand Prize to Take Shelter by US helmer Jeff Nichols (also winner of the SACD Prize) and a special mention to Australian film Snowtown by Justin Kurzel.

The SIC sidebar at the Cannes Film Festival also honoured European co-productions: Las Acacias (see review) by Argentina’s Pablo Giorgelli. The debut title co-produced by Spanish outfit Armonika picked up ACIS/CCAS and OFAJ (Very) Young Critics’ awards.
