20/02/2003 - The latest features from Greengrass & Evans are 2 of 7 British projects sharing a Film Council grant of Euros 740,000

The latest feature films to be directed by Paul Greengrass (Bloody Sunday [+see also:

film profile]) and Marc Evans (My Little Eye) are two of the seven projects by top British filmmakers sharing a £500,000 (Euros750,000) grant from the British Film Council’s Development Fund.
Paul Greengrass was awarded £94,000 (Euros141,000) to make Cross Town Traffic about Jimi Hendrix’s last days in London prior to the singer's death in September 1970. Produced by Elizabeth Karlsen (Little Voice), the project is scripted by Oliver Parker (It Was An Accident).
Marc Evans’s new project, Hunky Dory, was awarded £19,040 (Euros28,000), and will be co-funded by Working Title and the Welsh screen agency Sgrîn Cymru Wales.
The team behind Anita & Me, Meera Syal and Paul Raphael were assigned £101,500 (Euros150,000) to make an as-yet untitled project about the cultural clash between East and West that occurs as a consequence of a plane crashing into the sea close to a small Irish village.
John Fawcett was awarded £5,916 (Euros8,700) to adapt Simon Maginn’s novel, “The Dark”, for the big screen. The film will be produced by Jeremy Bolt (Impact Pictures) with co-financing from Germany’s Constantin Film.
Mrs Ratcliffe’s Revolution, a romantic comedy produced by Leslee Udwin (East Is East) and Paul Flannery, was awarded £70,000 (Euros104,000). Ghosthunters, a teen action adventure set in the 1920’s, received £90,000 (Euros134,000). Produced by Lee Thomas, it is writer/director John McKay’s (Crush) new project.
Finally, Francesca Barra and Selwyn Roberts (First Sight Films) are producing the remake of the classic British horror film The Witchfinder General with a £91,000 (Euros135,000) contribution from the Development Fund.
