) will be among the guests of the 12th Lecce European Film Festival (April 12-16). The former will be at the centre of a retrospective organised with the Italian National Film, the latter will meet with audiences after the screening of Sergio Rubini’s The Bogeyman [+see also:

The festival, directed Alberto La Monica and Cristina Sodano, will also host popular actor Carlo Verdone, who will present the award that takes the name of his father Mario, a film critic, to a young Italian filmmaker who has distinguished him or herself in the past season; and renowned Portuguese producer Paulo Branco as one of the "protagonists of European cinema", who will also preside over the Lecce jury.

The competition features 10 European films making their Italian debuts, including Robert Adrian Pejo’s The Camera Murderer (Austria), Jean-Paul Civeyrac’s The Girls in Black [+see also:

, with Carolina Crescentini and Claudio Gioé; Massimiliano Verdesca’s W Zappatore, featuring a heavy metal Sandra Milo, and Pasquale Pozzessere’s Cocapop, a film on cocaine shot entirely in one apartment, starring Anita Caprioli and Stefano Dionisi.

Highlights of the festivals various initiatives are a Croatian Film Week of five films; the round table "The Identities and Languages of European Cinema”, promoted by the European Parliament; and Puglia Show, a competition of shorts by young directors from Apulia.
