(“All the Suns”), starring Stefano Accorsi, is being launched today by UGC Distribution in almost 350 theatres. It is the main attraction among this Wednesday’s releases after the novelist’s dazzling 2008 directorial debut I’ve Loved You So Long [+see also:

sparked such interest in his work.

This time, the director has tried his hand at a comedy (see news) centred on an Italian man who teaches baroque music and lives in Strasbourg with his 15-year-old daughter and his brother, and has neglected his love life. With its warm and romantic charm, the film has won over many critics despite its melodramatic effects. The cast also includes Neri Marcore, Lisa Cipriani, Clotilde Courau and Anouk Aimée.

"Like I’ve Loved You So Long, this film talks about the importance of others," commented Claudel. "The characters manage to achieve a certain happiness because others help them achieve this… For me, family matters, secrets, the unspoken and the difficulty in communicating remain continuous subjects of exploration (…).”

“I’m not a genius and this film won’t revolutionise comedy. I’d just like people to be happy when they watch it and for them to come out with a smile on their face after spending time with men and women who in some ways resemble what they’re going through and have made them feel good in an intelligent, sensitive and entertaining way."
