Je Vous Ai Compris takes animated look at Algerian War
Frank Chiche’s animated feature Je Vous Ai Compris (“I’ve Understood You”) is among the five big-screen projects selected at the first 2011 session of the CRRAV Film and TV Fund (Nord - Pas de Calais region). Unveiled at the recent Cartoon Movie, the production by France’s Magnificat Films and Luxembourg’s Luxanimation will have a total budget of €2.88m, including backing from Arte.
Je Vous Ai Compris is set in Algiers in April 1961. During the night of April 21, in the hope of putting an end to General de Gaulle’s policy for Algerian independence, the 1st Foreign Parachute Regiment seize power in Algiers.
Malika, Jacquot, Thomas and Youssef get ready to confront their destiny. The four 20-somethings love Algeria, each in their own way.
The CRRAV has also decided to support Jean-Paul Rouve’s €3.7m Quand Je Serai Petit (“When I Will Be Little”, see news – Elia Films – Mars Distribution), whose eight-week shoot has been underway since mid-March in the Nord - Pas de Calais region. The cast includes the director, Claude Brasseur, Miou-Miou, Benoît Poelvoorde and Xavier Beauvois.
The three other selected projects are Yann Coridian’s €2.1m Promenade de Santé (“Healthy Stroll”, recently selected by the advance on receipts committee of the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC) – see news – Tabo Tabo Films – MK2 Diffusion); Gilles Deroo and Marianne Pistone’s Mouton (“Sheep”, Boule de Suif Production – €1.08m budget also including the pledge of an advance on receipts from the CNC); and Hassan Legzouli’s €2.2m Le Veau d’Or (“The Golden Calf”, Sophie Dulac Distribution).
