Leap Year wins Belgrade Auteur Film Festival

Michael Rowe’s Leap Year won the Grand Prix “Aleksandar Sasa Petrovic” and the award of one of the two Serbian FIPRESCI sections at the Belgrade Auteur Film Festival (November 30-December 7).

The drama about a Mexican freelance journalist in a sado-masochistic relationship premiered at Cannes, where it won the Camera d’Or.

by Rafi Pitts, which premiered in Berlin competition, received a special mention, and Mohammad Davudi won best cinematography for his work on the film.

Best director award went to Korea’s Lee Changdong for Poetry, also a winner at Cannes, for Best Screenplay.

American director Matthew Porterfield won the award for the Best Director Under 35 for his docu-drama Putty Hill.

Aleksei Fedorchenko’s Silent Souls (Russia) received the award of the other branch of the Serbian FIPRESCI. The film premiered at Venice, where it won Best Cinematography.
