film profile], British director Steve McQueen will reunite with his star from the film Michael Fassbender for his next project, Shame.

Fassbender will play a 30-something New York resident who has difficulties with his sex life. The script, co-written by McQueen and Abi Morgan (Brick Lane [+see also:

film profile]), explores the nature of need, and how people live their lives and react to the experiences that shape them.

Film4 is co-financing while HanWay Films will be selling the project at the Toronto Film Festival. Production will begin in January 2011 after Fassbender wraps Matthew Vaughn's X-Men prequel.

Iain Canning, who served as executive producer on Hunger, is producing Shame, having developed the project through his Sydney-based company See-Saw Films.

Since Hunger, the German/Irish Fassbender has been extremely busy, appearing in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds [+see also:

Fassbender won the IFTA and BIFA Best Actor awards for Hunger. The film won the Camera d’Or at Cannes in 2008, and the Gucci Prize at Venice, besides a host of other awards and McQueen won the Carl Foreman Award for the Most Promising Newcomer at the BAFTAs.
