FUNDING Spain

ICAA announces 2010 film project and amortisation funding

by

The ICAA has announced the recipients of a substantial part of the 2010 film subsidies, €54.8m out of a total of €83.85m. Funding has thus been announced for the amortisation of features (for which €41.3m has been allocated), and film and documentary projects for cinema and television (€13.5m).

Besides the overall importance of these major state subsidies, there was much anticipation surrounding this funding announcement, the first under the directorship of Ignasi Guardans. It was preceded by intense controversy because of the substantial change in the method of funding allocation introduced by the ministerial order published at the end of 2009 (see news).

Among the projects set to obtain funding from the public organisation are new works by Javier Rebollo (El Muerto – produced by Icónica and Lolita Films – €500,000); Albert Serra (Historia de Mi Muerte – produced by Andergraum Films – €450,000); and Arantza Álvarez (Kenu – produced by Jaleo Films and Kiribati Productions – €500,000).

The highest amount of funding will go to Samuel Ortí’s Poseso (produced by Basque Films Services – €675,706); followed by Francisco Rodríguez Baños’s Alicia en el País de Ali (produced by Letra Producciones – €550,000); and Alberto Morais’s Arena en las Manos (produced by Olivo Films – €515,000).

As for amortisation funding, the largest subsidy in the Spanish film funding system, six films have received the maximum amount, which is fixed at €1m: Che: Part One [+see also:
