Albanese making first film from popular TV character
Fandango has announced that production has begun on the first film of comic actor-director Antonio Albanese as Cetto La Qualunque, his popular TV character. Cetto La Qualunque is a corrupt, depraved and ignorant entrepreneur who decides to enter politics. He despises nature, democracy and, above all, women, which he promises in abundance to his supporters. His motto is “più pilu e cemento armato” (“more chicks and concrete”).
"The film is a marvelous challenge for me," said the director, who worked for Albanese for 10 years, as assistant director, director and screenwriter. "We will the cartoon language of today’s news, reinventing and abstracting it, to re-tell contemporary society in, we hope, an even better way. I believe that comedy is more effective than anything else to depict reality, even and above all when the situations are harsh, dramatic".
The script was written by Albanese and Piero Guerrera, with collaboration from Manfredonia. The cast includes Sergio Rubini, Lorenza Indovina, Salvatore Cantalupo and Luigi Maria Burruano. DoP on the project is Roberto Forza and the original score is by Banda Osiris (winner of the Silver Bear at the 2004 Berlinale for Matteo Garrone’s First Love). Qualunquemente is slated for an early 2011 release.
