FilmPolska showcases New Polish cinema in Berlin and Potsdam

German cinemagoers in Berlin and Potsdam will have the chance to discover a vast panorama of new Polish cinema at the 5th FilmPolska Festival, which opens tomorrow. Lasting until April 21, the event will show 100 films, including narrative, documentary and student works.

On the documentary side, there will be screenings of several titles recently lauded at festivals, including Paweł Łoziński’s Chemo (Prix Europe 2009), Marcin Koszałka’s Till It Hurts (Leipzig Golden Dove 2009), Marcel Łozińśki’s Poste Restante (European Film Award 2009) and Bartek Konopka’s Rabbit à la Berlin (2010 Oscar nominee).

Various film schools will present works by their students, including Łódź’s PWSTFiTV, Katowice’s WRiT and Warsaw’s Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing.

Meanwhile, production company Opus Film will organise a retrospective giving German audiences a chance to watch or re-watch Piotr Trzaskalski’s Edi and Sławomir Fabicki’s Retrieval [+see also:

Finally, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Solidarity movement, the festival has programmed a series of films on this subject, by Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Kazimierz Kutz and Marcel Łoziński.
