Eurimages supports As If I’m Not There

The Board of Management of the Council of Europe’s Eurimages Fund has agreed to support the co-production of 14 feature films for a total amount of €4.87m (see news). Amongst them is Irish writer/director Juanita Wilson’s As If I’m Not There, which has received €220,000.

The film has also received €520,000 from the Irish Film Board and is also backed by the Macedonian Film Fund and the Swedish Film Institute.

Based on the harrowing eponymous novel by Croatian author Slavenka Drakulić, the film will recount the story of a woman, Samira, a survivor of the horrific ‘women’s room’ in a prisoner camp in Bosnia, where she, along with hundreds of others is raped over and over again. This results in the birth of an unwanted child that she must learn to live with.

) of Stella Nova Films (Sweden) and Vladimir Anastasov (Upside Down) of Sektor Film Dooel (Macedonia) will produce.

A two-month shoot is scheduled for September in Sweden and Macedonia with Tim Fleming (Once [+see also:

) taking on cinematography duties.

Wilson is best known in her previous avatar as a producer, behind the Irish films H3 and Inside I’m Dancing [+see also:

. She made her directorial debut with the short The Door, which won Best Short Film in 2009 at the IFTAs, Foyle, Cork and Bilbao.

Since its establishment in 1988, Eurimages has supported 1,266 European co-productions for a total amount of approximately €375m.
