TrustNordisk adds Bier and Mackenzie to line-up

by

The Copenhagen-based sales outfit TrustNordisk has added two high profile feature films to its line-up: Susanne Biers’s return to Danish-language fare with Civilization (working title), and David Mackenzie’s The Last Word, starring Ewan McGregor.

The announcement was made in Cannes at a press lunch held by Swedish regional film centre Film i Väst, co-financier on both projects against access to post-production facilities. After Bier’s successful outing to Hollywood, the popular Danish filmmaker will come home to make the $2.8m Civilization, set to go in production hopefully next year, according to Zentropa’s financial director Peter Garde.

The second major project to be handled by Zentropa’s sales arm is The Last Word, the new collaboration between star actor McGregor and Mackenzie following the award-winning Young Adam (2004). Based on a script by Denmark’s top scriptwriter, Kim Fupz Aakeson, the film is described as a love story set in a city where people are slowly losing their sensory perception.

The film is produced by Zentropa’s Scottish partner Sigma Films, in co-production with Germany (Amusementpark) and Sweden (Memfis Film). Zentropa and Sigma Films are associated in the Advance Party initiative.

press screening last night, ahead of today’s official competition screening. As expected, the film raised heated controversy and strong reactions from the international press. While the 30 distributors who already pre-bought the film are no doubt wondering how to market the art-horror film to their audience, others still have the opportunity to pass or pay realistic prices for it.

Other TrustNordisk films premiering in Cannes include the Swedish animation film for adults Metropia (buyers only), the US remake of the Danish box office hit Love at First Hiccup by Barbara Rothenborg and Måns Herngren’s Swedish comedy The Swimsuit Issue [+see also:
