Two Swedish films were granted support from the NFI: Waves from Home, written and directed by Peter Dalle, focuses on a European expedition to Svalbard, in northern Norway in 1939. The project set to start filming in September is produced by Sweden’s Fladen Film in co-production with Norway’s Maipo. Nordisk Film will handle Norwegian distribution.

Simon and the Oaks is a NOK 40m (€4.5m) Swedish project produced by Göta Film. Set in the 1940s, the film is based on Marianne Fredriksson’s international best-seller. Norway’s Filmkameratene is co-producing, with Denmark’s Asta Film and Germany’s Schmidtz Katze Filmkollektiv. No director has been attached to the project since Björn Runge dropped out.

Fridriksson’s autobiographical Mama Gogo is produced by Spellbound in co-production with Norway’s Filmhuset Production. SEG will handle the Norwegian release in February 2010.

The 1952-set Danish drama I Det Best Mening (“With the Best Intentions”) looks at children from Greenland who were sent to Denmark to make them “Danish”. The film directed by Louise Friedberg is produced by Nimbus Film in co-production with Norway’s SF Norge. Shooting will start on July 13 and SF Norge will release the film domestically in the autumn 2010.
