Phyllida Lloyd

Phyllida Lloyd was born in Bristol, England in 1957. After graduating she entered the BBC as a dramatist. A series of successful stage productions led to her directing her first Royal Shakespeare Company production in 1991. Her first opera production followed in the next year. Having scored an international stage hit with her production of the Abba musical MAMMA MIA! she went on to adapt this production for the screen version, starring Meryl Streep. The film was to become the most commercially successful film in the history of British cinema. Her film THE IRON LADY, also starring Meryl Streep, won two academy awards including Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for Meryl Streep and many others awards.
