synopsis

Philippe and Bernard, both in their for¬ties, are best friends. Philippe is a painter and Bernard a pianist. Together they have found a way to boost their modest incomes : they steal paintings and replace them with copies. They work for a mysterious man called "Ghirlandaio". At a party in the casino of Spa, Philippe falls in love with Anne, the daughter of an industrialist and an art collector. He is the owner of a painting by James Ensor called "Les masques blêmes".
