THE DOG, THE GENERAL AND THE BIRDS

by Francis Nielsen

synopsis

There was once a young Russian general who sacrificed the birds in order to burn Moscow and save his country from Napoleon's invading hordes. But in his retirement at St. Petersburg, the general is bored. One day, he decides to adopt a dog. He calls him Bonaparte, in memory of his victory over the French emperor. But since that famous battle, the general has had a bit of a problem with the birds: they don't seem to like him very much. So, with the help of his new companion, the old general sets himself a delicate but imaginative task: to set free all the caged birds.
