LA CASA DEI BAMBINI

by Francesca Muci

synopsis

Immediately after the war, the brigade of Jewish engineers of the British army, Solel Boneh, managed to bring to safety hundreds of children who had escaped the terror of the extermination camps. For three years, from 1945 to 1948, a small Lombard town named Selvino, became their home. Orphans of their respective families of origin, lost in that tragedy, the "children of Selvino" slowly managed to find moments of serenity and resumed a normal life. Between 1946 and 1949, most of the "children of Selvino" were boarded on the motorboat Rondine Enzo Sereni. Almost everyone is welcomed in Eretz Israel, in the kibbutz Tze'elim and Hanita. Today, they live there together as a big family, replicating their happy Selvino model.
