APPLE AND VOLCANO – IN SEARCH OF WHAT REMAINS

by Nathalie Oestreicher

synopsis

Fabienne is seriously ill; she does not have much time left to live. Logically worrying about the fate of her two little girls, she wants to know and understand how her friend Nathalie endured—and understands today—the death of her father and her brother when she was a child. Revisiting her story and memories, Nathalie realises that her sentiments are strange and ambiguous, and thus resolves to confront a frozen past that she appears to have rewritten. Around absence, past, present or future, in sensitive and heart-breaking intimacy, the two friends exchange and draw closer to start a final voyage that is as shared as it is individual. How can you leave a trace of yourself for your children without locking them up in memories? How can you continue your path by appropriating the scathing pain that has become numb? Resolutely climbing the peak, both literally and figuratively, Nathalie films Fabienne and her bravery while time changes dimensions, leaving room for a relationship and for moving journeys.
